福生於無為

Blessings Arise from Non-action

Blessings arise from non-action, while troubles arise from excessive desires. Therefore, only by being content does wealth follow; only by having virtue and proper conduct toward others does honor follow. Hence, those who value rank while despising virtue, even if they are emperors, are not truly esteemed as noble. Those who covet possessions but do not know when to stop, even if they possess the whole world, are not truly rich.  -- 《Han Shi Waizhuan

君子養心, 莫善於誠。致誠無他,唯仁之守,唯義之行。誠心守仁則能化;誠心行義則能變。變化代興, 謂之天德。--孫卿子

For a gentleman to nurture his mind, nothing is better than , and practicing righteousness. With a sincsincerity. To bring sincerity to fulfillment is nothing other than this: guardingbenevolenceere heart guarding benevolence, one can transform. With a sincere heart practicing righteousness, one can bring change. When transformation and change rise in succession, this is called the virtue of Heaven. --Sun Qingzi

Han Ying (c. 200 BCE – c. 130 BCE), a native of Mo in Zhuo Commandery (present-day Renqiu, Hebei Province), served as a Boshi (scholar or academic official) under Emperor Wen of Han and later became Grand Tutor to Liu Shun, Prince of Changshan, under Emperor Jing. 《Hanshi Waizhuan》 (“Outer Commentary on the Book of Songs”), attributed to him, is a miscellaneous compilation of 360 anecdotes, moral lessons, ethical norms, and practical counsel. Typically, each entry concludes with a fitting quotation from the 《Book of Songs》 to reinforce a point in governance or argument.

Introduction to the author Sun Qingzi:

Sun Qingzi, that is, Xun Qing, also known as Xun Kuang and Xun Zi (c. 313 BCE–238 BCE), courtesy name Qing (some say the title “Qing” was an honorific used by contemporaries). During the Han dynasty, to avoid a naming taboo with Emperor Xuan of Han (whose personal name was Xun), he was referred to as Sun Qing. He was a native of Zhao in the late Warring States period, a thinker, philosopher, educator, and a leading figure of the Confucian school. Xun Zi once served as the Libationer (head) of the Jixia Academy in Qi, held office as magistrate of Lanling in Chu, and also traveled to Zhao and Qin to offer political counsel.
