Introduction to the author: Yuan Huai (style name: Xiaoni) was a thinker of the Wei-Jin period, born in Fule, Chen Commandery (present-day Taikang County, Henan Province). Known for his integrity, loyalty, and sense of righteousness, he was also exceptionally talented, humble, and eager to learn, never hesitating to seek knowledge from others. He maintained close ties with Ji Kang and Ruan Ji. Over his lifetime, he produced more than 100,000 characters of writings and gained renown as a Confucian scholar.

His representative works include 《Yuanzi Zhenglun》 (19 volumes) and 《Yuanzi Zhengshu》 (25 volumes). 《Yuanzi Zhenglun》 emphasizes explaining difficult points in Confucian classics through natural reasoning, breaking away from the rigid interpretations of earlier scholars to establish his own school of thought. 《Yuanzi Zhengshu》 is a collection of essays on political philosophy, in which he sought to integrate Confucianism, Daoism, and Legalism through a “root-and-branch” approach, thereby constructing his own theoretical system of political thought.
