水之性，不杂则清，莫动则平；郁闭而不流，亦不能清；天德之象也。故曰：纯粹而不杂，静一而不变，淡而无为，动而以天行，此养神之道也。

【註1】莊子（約前369年—前286年），莊氏，名周，一說字子休，約與孟子同時，宋國蒙人，曾任漆園吏。為中國戰國中期著名思想家、哲學家、文學家，是道家學派的代表人物，老子思想的繼承和發展者，後世將他與老子並稱為「老莊」。西元742年，唐玄宗天寶初，詔封莊周為南華真人，稱其著書《莊子》為南華經，在四庫全書之中歸類為子部道家類。宋徽宗時，追封為「微妙元通真君」。

Zhuangzi (c. 369 BCE – 286 BCE), surname Zhuang, given name Zhou, styled by some as Zixiu, was roughly contemporary with Mencius. A native of Meng in the State of Song, he once served as an official in the lacquer garden. He was a renowned thinker, philosopher, and writer of the mid–Warring States period, a representative figure of the Daoist school, and a continuer and developer of Laozi’s thought. Later generations honored the two together as “Lao-Zhuang.”

In 742 CE, at the beginning of the Tianbao reign of Emperor Xuanzong of Tang, Zhuang Zhou was posthumously titled Perfected Sage of Nanhua (Nanhua Zhenren), and his writings, the 《Zhuangzi》, were honored as the 《Nanhua Classic》 (Nanhua Jing), classified under the Daoist category of the “Masters” section in the 《Complete Library of the Four Treasuries》. During the reign of Emperor Huizong of Song, he was further posthumously enfeoffed as “Perfected Lord of Subtle and Primordial Comprehension” (Weimiao Yuantong Zhenjun).
