6/14/2019 Dear Colleagues, I am pleased to announce that the Mayor and City Council today reached an agreement to add $33 million to the expense budgets of the City’s three library systems. As you know, we had been facing and preparing for an $11 million cut. Although the specifics are not yet final, this increase will allow QPL to continue providing essential services in the face of rising costs, our growing footprint, and increased demand for our programs, services and resources. Thanks to our outstanding advocacy team and to all of you for your hard work in urging the public to make clear to our City’s leaders how much our libraries mean to them. This budget deal underscores how important the work you do every day is to the City and how indispensable libraries are. Below is the statement from the three library heads we plan to send to the media this afternoon. I will update you with more information as we work out the details. Dennis Walcott, CEO of Queens Public Library
