Funeral Rites and Burial Assistance

In order to ensure that those we’ve lost are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve, the City signed an emergency rule to expand the number of low-income people who can receive burial assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic. The assistance is available to everyone, regardless of immigration status, with proof of low-income status. For more information, visit the Help Now NYC website, call 929-252-7731, or email BurialServices@hra.nyc.gov for application assistance.

The NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) has published important information for New Yorkers who have lost loved ones.

·         Download DCWP’s Funeral Planning During COVID-19 Tips.

On May 14, Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs Commissioner Bitta Mostofi, Department of Social Services Commissioner Steve Banks, Community Affairs Unit Commissioner Marco Carrión, and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Executive held an Community and Ethnic Media virtual roundtable on funeral rites and burial assistance.

·         Watch and share the discussion on social media.

 Emergency Food Assistance

All New Yorkers can access the food they need by picking up grab-and-go meals at NYC Schools, by visiting a food pantry, or by signing up for food delivery assistance.

 ·         Go to nyc.gov/getfood to sign up or to find an emergency food location near you.

Visiting a food pantry, picking up a grab-and-go meal, or receiving food delivery assistance will not impact your ability to apply for a green card. If you have questions about how accessing certain public benefits may affect immigration status, call the free, confidential ActionNYC hotline at 1-800-354-0365 for information and connections to legal help.

The GetFood Delivery Assistance Program is seeking nonprofit providers for meal preparation with a focus on culturally sensitive meals and ethnic foods, to staff and serve as distribution sites, and to facilitate home meal delivery.

·         Go to nyc.gov/nonprofits for more information.

On May 11th, MOIA Commissioner Bitta Mostofi, COVID-19 Food Czar Commissioner Kathryn Garcia, and Human Resources Administration First Deputy Commissioner Gary Jenkins held a Community and Ethnic Media virtual roundtable on emergency food assistance.

·         Watch and share the discussion on social media.

On May 12, the NYC Unity Project in the NYC Mayor’s Office, in partnership with representatives from 15 city agencies and over 200 LGBTQ+ community partners across NYC, launched the NYC LGBTQ+ COVID-19 Guide: nyc.gov/lgbtqcovid.

The guide includes LGBTQ+ affirming programs and services—both city and private/non-profit resources— still available during the COVID-19 pandemic include: mental health, physical health and wellness, and sexual health services; peer and community support; food assistance; legal services; housing and shelter; and financial/funding opportunities.

·         Share about the resource guide on social media.

Full-time and Part-Time Resignations and Retirements

Tuesday, December 06, 2016 1:57 PM
Good Afternoon,

The Human Resources Team would like to gently remind you about the Library’s procedures regarding full-time and part-time employee resignations and retirements.

Full-Time Resignations and Retirements
Full-time employees who plan to leave the Library must inform the President and CEO, Human Resources Department and supervisor about their departure in writing.  The notice of resignation must include the date of last day you will be at your work site. Advanced notice of at least two weeks prior to your resignation and at least six weeks prior to your retirement is recommended in order to process your final paperwork in a timely manner.

Accrued annual leave is paid to employees upon their separation from the Library.  Employees with 10 years or more of active service may convert a percentage of their sick leave balance to terminal leave, which is paid up to 120 days upon separation of employment.

Please submit to Human Resources your original, signed and approved timesheets through your final day of work.  Remember to return any Library property, including employee ID, office keys, phone, laptop/computer, etc., to your immediate supervisor on or before your final day at work.

Please contact Jasmin Calhoun at Jasmin.Calhoun@queenslibrary.org  or 718-990-0815 with any questions.

Hourly Rate (Part-Time) Resignations
Please notify your immediate supervisor in advance of your separation from employment in order to process your final paperwork.  Supervisors should submit the original final timesheet and completed Hourly Rate Separation Form to the Payroll Office.  Copies of the final timesheet and separation form should be submitted to Human Resources.  The Hourly Rate Separation form can be found on the Human Resources Department staff page, under HRD Forms.

Please contact Jezabelle Durecout at Jezabelle.Durecout@queenslibrary.org  or 718-990-0736 with any questions.

Thank you,

The Human Resources Team
