Letter To My Fourth Uncle

Against the family’s teaching I wander far,

Not for fame, nor for the well-being of my family.

One day the universe will be turned anew,

Freedom flowers will bloom all over the divine land .

DONGBIWU.JPG【诗人简介】董必武 (1886年3月5日-1975年4月2日)董必武,湖北黄安(今红安)人。中华人民共和国开国元勋,中国共产党和中华人民共和国的第一代主要领导人之一,曾任中華人民共和國副主席、代主席、全国人大常委会第一副委员长、最高人民法院院长及中国共产党中央监察委员会书记。1975年4月2日在北京逝世,終年90歲。

1903年考取秀才。1911年參加了辛亥革命,同年加入中國同盟會。1914年考入日本東京“私立日本大學”學習法律, 同年在日本加入孫中山創立的中華革命黨。1915年5月回國從事反袁活動,曾兩次被捕入獄。1916年出獄後再赴日本。1918年回國,參加護法運動。 1919年在上海參加了五四運動,其後創辦武漢中學。1921年7月出席中國共產黨第一次全國代表大會,他是武漢小組代表。隨後建立和發展湖北省的黨組織,任中共武漢區委委員,湖北民運部部長,湖北省委委員。第一次國共合作時領導籌建了國民黨湖北省黨部,並任湖北省國民黨工作委員會主任,國民黨中央候補委員。

1928年赴莫斯科中山大學、列寧學院學習。1932年回國,之後歷任中共中央黨校校長,中央黨務委員會書記,中央工農民主政府執行委員,最高法院院長,工農檢察委員會副主任。1934年10月參加長征。到陝北後,任中共中央黨校校長,陝甘寧邊區政府代理主席。抗日戰爭時期和抗戰勝利後,是中國共產黨同國民黨談判的代表之一。 1945年代表解放區參加舊金山聯合國製憲會議。曾任中共中央南方局副書記,中共重慶工委書記,中共中央財經部長,華北局書記,華北人民政府主席。 

Introduction to the poet: Dong Biwu (March 5, 1886- April 2, 1975) was born in Huang'an (now Hong'an), Hubei Province, one of the founding fathers of the People's Republic of China, one of the first generation of major leaders of the CPC and the People's Republic of China. He served as the Vice President and Acting President of the People's Republic of China, the First Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the President of the Supreme People's Court, and the Party Secretary of the Central Supervision Committee of the CPC. He passed away in Beijing on April 2, 1975, at the age of 90.

In 1903, he was honored as a scholar in the county imperial exam. He worked as a teacher in Huangzhou, Hubei Province. In 1911, he joined the Revolution of 1911 and joined the Chinese Revolutionary Alliance in the same year. In 1914, he was admitted to the "Private Japanese University" in Tokyo, Japan, to study law. That same year, he joined the Chinese Revolutionary Party founded by Sun Yat-sen in Japan. In May 1915, he returned to China to engage in anti-Yuan activities and was arrested and imprisoned twice. After being released from prison in 1916, he went to Japan again. In 1918, he returned to China and participated in the Law-Protection Movement. In 1919, he participated in the May Fourth Movement in Shanghai and later founded Wuhan Middle School. In July 1921, he attended the first National Congress of the CPC as the representative of the Wuhan Communist Group. Subsequently, he established and developed party organizations in Hubei Province, serving as a member of the Wuhan District Committee of the Communist Party of China, Minister of the Hubei Democratic Movement Department, and member of the Hubei Provincial Committee. During the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China, he led the establishment of the Kuomintang Hubei Provincial Party Headquarters and served as the director of the Hubei Provincial Kuomintang Working Committee and a candidate member of the Kuomintang Central Committee.

In 1928, he went to study at Sun Yat-sen University and Lenin Academy in Moscow. In 1932, he returned to China and subsequently served as the President of the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the Central Party Affairs Committee, Executive Member of the Central Workers' and Peasants' Democratic Government, President of the Supreme Court, and Deputy Director of the Workers' and Peasants' Procuratorial Committee. He participated in the Long March in October 1934. After arriving in northern Shaanxi, he served as the principal of the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China and the acting chairman of the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia Border Region Government. During the Anti-Japanese War and after the victory of the War of Resistance against Japan, he was one of the representatives of the CPC in negotiations with the Kuomintang. In 1945, he represented the liberated areas at the United Nations Constitutional Convention in San Francisco. Formerly served as Deputy Secretary of the Southern Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Secretary of the Chongqing Working Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Minister of Finance and Economics of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Secretary of the North China Bureau, and Chairman of the North China People's Government.
