Notes: ①The poet has traveled to Japan twice. The first time he went to Japan was in 1903 under the guise of visiting the Osaka Expo, and he also visited Tokyo. ② In Han Yu's "Preface to Sending Off Meng Dongye," there is a sentence: "When things are not in a state of equilibrium, they will make themselves heard" Introduction to the poet: Revolutionary martyr Xu Xilin (1873-1907) was born in Shanyin (now Shaoxing), Zhejiang Province. In 1903, he went to Japan under the guise of visiting the Osaka Expo and met Tao Chengzhang, Gong Baoquan, and others. Zhejiang international students held a meeting to discuss the rescue of Zhang Binglin, who was imprisoned for promoting the revolution. He actively participated and provided financial assistance. At that time, students in Japan were carrying out anti-Russian movements and organizing anti-Russian volunteer teams due to the occupation of Northeast China by the Russian Empire. This further stimulated their anti-Qing revolutionary ideas. Influenced by this movement, Xu was deeply indignant about the corruption and incompetence of the Qing court. After returning to his home country, he established a dedicated elementary school and advocated for military training. In 1904, introduced by Tao Chengzhang, he joined the Restoration Society in Shanghai. In September 1905, Xu Xilin established Datong School in Shaoxing, with a specialized physical education department. He recruited party leaders from various counties under the jurisdiction of Jinhua, Chuzhou, and Shaoxing to receive military training at the school. According to school regulations, all incoming students were members of the Restoration Society and were still under the jurisdiction and control of school leaders after graduation. This school was actually a special school that accumulates strength for the revolution. In the winter of the same year, Xu Xilin went to Japan again to study the army, but was unsuccessful. The following spring, he returned to China and traveled north to the capital, Liaoning, and Jilin Provinces to observe the situation. In order to infiltrate the military system of the Qing Dynasty and gain control over the armed forces, he donated funds to become a Daoyuan in the winter of 1906 and was dispatched to Anqing. He successively served as the head of the Patrol Academy and the supervisor of the Army Elementary School. The Shaoxing Datong School was presided over by Qiu Jin, they arranged for simultaneous uprisings in Anhui and Zhejiang provinces. On July 6, 1907, Xu issued the "Notice of the Restoration Army" in Anqing, assassinated the governor En Ming, led the students of the Patrol Academy to capture the Armory Bureau, and engaged in a fierce battle with the Qing army. Chen Boping was killed in action, and Xu Xilin and Ma Zonghan were unfortunately captured. After being arrested, Xu took responsibility alone and spoke frankly to Feng Xu, the commander-in-chief who interrogated him, saying, "I will bear my guilt alone. You can cut my body in inches, but not to burden others." Such chivalrous courage was indeed Xu Xilin's superhuman ability. After writing his confession, he was taken a photo for a physical examination. Xu was not satisfied and loudly said, "Wait a minute, there is no smile on his face. How can we leave it to future generations? Take another photo." His display of righteous and heroic spirit made his opponent tremble with fear. Xu Xilin died calmly.
