The Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert announced today the following assignments:

Rear Adm. Philip G. Howe will be assigned as president, Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. Howe is currently serving as commander, Special Operations Command, U.S. Pacific Command, Camp H. M. Smith, Hawaii.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Mark W. Darrah, selected for the rank of rear admiral, will be assigned as program executive officer for Strike Weapons and Unmanned Aviation, Patuxent River, Maryland. Darrah is currently serving as commander, Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division; and assistant commander for Research and Engineering, Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Mathias W. Winter, selected for the rank of rear admiral, will be assigned as chief of Naval Research; and director, Innovation, Technology Requirements, and Test and Evaluation, Arlington, Virginia. Winter is currently serving as program executive officer for Strike Weapons and Unmanned Aviation, Patuxent River, Maryland.

Rear Adm. (lower half) Douglas G. Morton will be assigned as deputy chief, Support/Security Agreements, Office of Defense Representative-Pakistan. Morton is currently serving as commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia.

Capt. Ross A. Myers, selected for the rank of rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as deputy director for Nuclear, Homeland Defense and Current Operations, J33, Joint Staff, Washington, District of Columbia. Myers is currently serving as executive assistant to the Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, District of Columbia.

Capt. Gordon D. Peters, selected for the rank of rear admiral (lower half), will be assigned as commander, Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division; and assistant commander for Research and Engineering, Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Maryland. Peters is currently serving as program manager for the Presidential Helicopters Program, Patuxent River, Maryland.
