The White House and the Department of Defense announced today that Michael Bayer will return as the chair of the Defense Business Board (DBB).
Bayer, a former member and chair of the DBB, is also a current member of the Defense Science Board and the Chief of Naval Operations Executive Panel.
"I am so pleased that Michael Bayer has agreed to return to chair the Defense Business Board at this crucial time," said Secretary of Defense Ash Carter. "We need Michael's energy and expertise to bring the very best private sector ideas and actionable solutions to the department. Bob Work and I look forward to working with him and the DBB."
Bayer is currently the president and CEO of Dumbarton Strategies, in Washington, DC. The current chair, Robert "Bobby" Stein, has been asked by the secretary to advise the deputy secretary on the implementation of the defense business reform initiatives that were developed under his tenure with the DBB.
"I want to thank Bobby Stein for the outstanding work done supporting the department as the chair of the DBB," said Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work. "The reports and perspective provided by the Defense Business Board have been invaluable in improving the business operations of the department."
The DBB will convene again in July. The DBB was established in 2002 to provide the Secretary of Defense and other senior department leaders with independent advice on private sector best business practices for consideration and potential application to the department's operations.
