As a New Yorker and a Long Islander, I am stunned by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones. My thoughts are with New Yorkers across Long Island and the boroughs and suburbs of New York City who are most impacted by the wrath of this disaster. My gratitude goes to the courageous first responders who, once again, selflessly ran into harms’ way to save their neighbors.
There are difficult days ahead as we clean up and recover from this historically destructive storm. There will be significant economic damage. In the days ahead, we will assess and understand its full impact on the city, state and the country. My office stands ready to assist in any way we can.
New Yorkers are strong and resilient. We pull together in the times of greatest need. We reach out and help our neighbors and our communities. Together, we will rebuild what has been lost and again show our New York strength.
