DiNapoli: Central NY Village Official Stole More Than $100K

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced Wednesday that an audit and investigation by his office revealed a former official of the now–dissolved village of Altmar in Oswego County stole more than $117,000 in public funds. The New York State Police Tuesday arrested Margaret Bailey and charged her with felony counts of grand larceny and falsifying business records.

DiNapoli: Financial Records of 500 Public Authorities Now on www.openbooknewyork.com

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli Thursday announced that financial information for more than 500 state and local public authorities is now available at Open Book New York,http://www.openbooknewyork.com/, a transparency website launched by DiNapoli in 2008. The database, going back to 2007, can be downloaded in an Excel, tsv or csv format.

DiNapoli Finds Veterans are not Informed of Health Benefits Options

Poor coordination of health benefits for veterans by the state Department of Health and local social services departments resulted in many veterans being placed in the state’s Medicaid program rather than federal programs, according to an audit released Wednesday by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Auditors found dozens of examples where necessary referrals were not made for federal benefits, limiting veterans’ health options and costing state and local taxpayers millions.

DiNapoli Audit Finds Weakness in Tracking of Equipment Deployed for Superstorm Sandy

Nearly half of $1.2 million in equipment purchased by the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) to keep polling stations open after Superstorm Sandy was not received, not recovered or not properly disposed of, according to an audit by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. DiNapoli recommended that DHSES improve how it purchases and tracks equipment during emergencies.

DiNapoli Announces State Contract & Payment Actions for February 2014

State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced Tuesday his office reviewed 1,698 contracts valued at $4.4 billion and approved more than 2.7 million payments worth more than $8.5 billion in February 2014. His office also rejected 157 contract transactions valued at $362.8 million and 3,346 payments valued at more than $3.8 million due to fraud, waste or other improprieties.

DiNapoli Releases February State Cash Report

State tax collections totaled $62.9 billion eleven months into the fiscal year, about $30 million below the latest projections, according to the February 2014 state cash report released Thursday by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
