The former justice court clerk in the Town of Potsdam was arrested for embezzling $117,000 after an auditfound she manipulated court accounting records and pocketed cash receipts, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
The former treasurer in the Village of Riverside, located in Steuben County, stole more than $80,000 in taxpayer funds through extra pay, pocketing cash and using the village’s credit card for personal purchases, according to an audit released Tuesday by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
The state Department of Taxation and Finance ran up more than $6 million in overtime costs last year because of systemic problems with a contractor’s processing of paper returns and the department’s failure to fully assess the risks of using a new vendor and stringently monitor its work, according to an audit releasedWednesday by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The total cost to taxpayers is expected to jump when interest payments for late refunds and pay for staffers who had to put off other duties to remedy the problems are tallied.
