福斯旗下的ktvu新聞網,(2021年)9月11日報導了鄧月薇這位在911事件中,第一架撞上世貿中心的飛機上的華裔空服員,她是第一個提醒美國當局注意發生劫機事件的人。2001年9月11日,這名出生、成長於舊金山唐人街的空服員,一如往常的在飛機上服務。在飛機撞上世貿大樓之前,她撥打了23分鐘的電話,並提供了關鍵訊息。在電話錄音中鄧月薇說:「駕駛艙沒有應答,有人在公務艙中被刺傷了。嗯,而且認為我們這裡存在著催淚瓦斯氣體,讓我們無法呼吸。我不知道發生什麼事,但我覺得我們遭遇了劫持。」
在另一段錄音中,鄧月薇說:「有人能上駕駛艙嗎?我們(空服員)都無法進入駕駛艙。我們不知道誰在裡面。」最終,鄧月薇的遺言是:「請為我們祈禱吧。」虽无法阻止班机撞上世贸中心大楼,但她在电话中的冷静表现也再度为人称许,被封”民族英雄”。在她报告后不久,美国联邦航空总署(FAA)随即下令所有民用飞机停飞,飞行中的飞机也需要立即降落(在此之前已有三架飞机分别撞上世贸中心北塔、南塔以及五角大厦)。相信邓月薇所拨出的示警电话,在过程中发挥了关键作用。 舊金山中國城在2012年以911事件中獻身的美國航空公司華裔空姐鄧月薇為名,設立「鄧月薇華人康樂中心」。該中心社區領袖表示,鄧月薇的精神是快樂與堅持不懈的精神。
