Heaven has its seasons, Earth has its resources; to be able to share them with the people — that is benevolence. Where benevolence resides, the world turns to it.

To spare people from death, to resolve their difficulties, to rescue them from misfortune, to aid them in urgent need — that is virtue. Where virtue resides, the world turns to it.

To share people’s sorrows and joys, to align with their likes and dislikes — that is righteousness. Where righteousness resides, the world pledges allegiance.

That which can generate benefit — that is the Way. Where the Way resides, the world is aligned with.
