风云汹涌世事乱，青山这边红旗漫。
秾艳细看取，桂影清辉伴①。

华夏五千年，小康人心甜。
桐阴满庭芳②，一池春光灿。

To The Tune Of Pu Sa Man

Storms and clouds surge, the world in turmoil,
Yet on these green hills red flags spread far.
Look closely at the splendid bloom,
Accompanied by cassia shadows in the moon’s clear light.

Five thousand years of China’s heritage,
Moderate prospority sweetens people’s hearts.
Fragrance of Phoenix-trees fills the shady courtyard,
And a whole pool of springtime shines splendid.

①古传说月中有桂树高五百丈，但月色清辉不减。

②前人种梧桐树已长大成荫，今日已是满庭芬芳。喻先烈奋斗不易，打下江山今日建设已卓有成效。

Notes

①According to an ancient legend, there is a cassia (osmanthus) tree five hundred meters tall on the moon, yet its shadow does not diminish the moon’s clear brightness.

②The Phoenix-trees planted by predecessors have now grown tall and leafy, so that today the entire courtyard is filled with fragrance. This metaphor expresses that the struggles and sacrifices of the martyrs were not easy, but thanks to their efforts in securing the nation, today’s construction and development have already borne fruitful results.
